The challenge
Adapt lived experience into a short visual narrative without flattening it into biography or letting the production technology become the subject.
Case study · 2026
A dying man, a winter road, and the hand that has steadied him since he was a boy. Adapted from the memoir By the Grace of God by Steve Sides.
The story
Steady Hand translates personal memoir into a compact cinematic memory. Rather than summarize an entire life, the film follows one emotional throughline across childhood, adulthood, illness, and the winter road.

Adapt lived experience into a short visual narrative without flattening it into biography or letting the production technology become the subject.
Build the film around memory, recurring human connection, landscape, and a clear emotional arc, then use generative production as the image-making method.
A completed short that became an official selection of the 2026 Red Dirt Film Festival. Festival recognition is stated as selection only; no award or performance claim is implied.
The project demonstrates CinemaMachina’s central proposition: intimate source material can become ambitious cinema at independent scale when story remains in command.
